Water Purification

21 May , 2021

Activated carbon used in water treatment should have three requirements: large adsorption capacity, fast adsorption speed, and good mechanical strength.

In addition to other external conditions, the adsorption capacity of activated carbon is mainly related to the specific surface area of activated carbon. The specific surface area is large, the number of micropores is large, and the adsorbate that can be adsorbed on the pore wall is large. The adsorption speed is mainly related to the particle size and pore distribution.

Activated carbon used in water treatment requires the transition pores (radius 20~1000A) to be relatively developed, which is conducive to the diffusion of adsorbate into the pores.

The smaller the particle size of activated carbon, the faster the adsorption speed, but the head loss will increase, generally in the range of 8-30 mesh. The mechanical abrasion resistance of activated carbon directly affects the service life of activated carbon.
