Export Case Study: 24 Tons of Coal-Based Granular Activated Carbon for Industrial Wastewater Treatment in Vietnam

23 Oct , 2026

Customer Requirement:

An industrial textile dyeing and chemical park wastewater facility in Vietnam required replacement filtration media for four deep-bed gravity adsorption filters. Their raw effluent contained persistent COD (Chemical Oxygen Demand), non-biodegradable synthetic azo dyes, and residual surfactants exceeding local discharge limits.

The client sought high-adsorption coal-based granular activated carbon (GAC) characterized by an optimized transitional pore structure (mesoporous volume) to capture medium-to-large organic molecules, along with high abrasion resistance to withstand backwashing cycles.

They also required pre-shipment third-party testing (SGS/ASTM) and standard 25 kg woven bags palletized with shrink wrap to facilitate manual handling and staging across multi-level filtration platforms. As a premier Activated Carbon Manufacturer & Solutions Provider, Kelin Carbon delivered a comprehensive technical proposal and batch validation within 48 hours.

Product and Specification:

We supplied premium Coal-Based Granular Activated Carbon 8×30 Mesh:

Raw Material Base: Selected Low-Ash Anthracite Coal

Particle Size (Mesh): 8×30 Mesh (0.60 – 2.36 mm)

Iodine Number: ≥ 950 mg/g

Methylene Blue Adsorption: ≥ 175 mg/g

Hardness: ≥ 95%

Moisture Content≤ 5%

Order Quantity: 24 Metric Tons (25 kg PP Woven Bags, 20 Pallets), loaded into one 40ft High Cube (40HQ) container, reinforced with industrial dunnage air bags and desiccants for transit from Qingdao Port to Haiphong Port, Vietnam.

Client Feedback:

The 25 kg bag format enabled convenient on-site manual handling and stair-carry access to tight top-manholes of their filter vessels. Zero moisture ingress or bag burst occurred during ocean freight, initial backwash loss was <0.3%, and the adsorption effluent met all industrial park discharge standards from Day 1.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ):

Q1: Why choose coal-based granular carbon over coconut shell carbon for wastewater treatment?

A1: While coconut shell carbon has superior micropores ideal for drinking water and gold recovery, coal-based activated carbon offers a broader pore distribution (micropores + mesopores) and higher bulk density, making it significantly more effective and cost-efficient for adsorbing large organic molecules, color dyes, and industrial COD.

Q2: Can Kelin Carbon customize particle sizes and packaging?

A2: Yes. We supply coal-based GAC in 4×8, 8×30, 12×40 mesh, as well as extruded pellets (0.9 mm to 4.0 mm). Packaging options include 25 kg PP bags (with/without pallets) and 500 kg / 1000 kg bulk jumbo bags.
